About Me

Johan Thevelein obtained his PhD at KU Leuven in 1981, spent two years as post-doc at Yale University (New Haven, Ct, USA) and was appointed professor at KU Leuven in 1986 and department director at VIB in 2002. His fundamental research was focused on basic mechanisms of nutrient sensing in yeast and his applied research on novel technologies and application for industrial yeast strain development (> 300 publ., h-index 104, > 40 pat., > 80 PhD). He retired in Oct. 2020 and established NovelYeast to continue R&D service and collaboration with the industry focused on development and implementation of superior industrial yeast strains and associated processes.
